Michele Volpi reflects on a crazy 2020 and on what is to come in 2021.
Dear tal&dev Community
A year ago we were ready to kickoff 2020 with very little clue about what was to come. There was no Covid-19, working from home was an exception rather than a rule, Zoom was still most closely associated with early 2000s Mazda commercials (zoom-zoom) and there was no tal&dev.
Launching a startup in the midst of a pandemic and global recession may seem counterintuitive, imprudent or plain reckless (in essence: crazy). In most cases those reflections prove correct. In our case instead, 2020 has proven to be a catalyst that has made our raison d’etre more robust.
Launching a startup in the midst of a pandemic and global recession may seem counterintuitive, imprudent or plain reckless (in essence: crazy).
The case for providing support for career strategizing (rather than job planning) by emphasizing personal development, self-awareness and discovering best fitting careers is stronger today than ever. The opportunity to provide individual talents with an unbiased, cost-effective and highly scalable tool to achieve career happiness is still there and is what we are tackling everyday at tal&dev.
At the same time, having a tool that enables companies to recruit best fitting talent, develop, engage and retain them for the long-term is something that in these times of remote work has proven a challenge for many progressive employers. Our new B2B tool (set to launch next week) and our Covid-19 stress check (assessing the burden on individual associates of increased WFH) are prime examples of how we seek to make a difference.
I am excited to say that our second year will see the tal&dev team continue to grow and with that the product as well. On the B2C side we will continue to deepen our product by introducing an interactive and personalized career map while also providing on-demand career coaching and mentoring. On the B2B side we will provide employers with a sophisticated tool (powered by our proprietary algorithms and machine-learning software) to both recruit and engage top-talent effectively. Thanks to the tal&dev engagement product, companies will be able to measure employee happiness based on what associates themselves determine is important. The culmination of these advancements will be a matching network where tal&dev talent is matched to progressive employers for their best-fitting careers.
I am excited to say that our second year will see the tal&dev team continue to grow and with that the product as well.
I would like to sign-off with a big thank you to two very special groups of people: our tal&dev team and our early adopters. Thanks to all of you for helping us revolutionize the future of work! I wish you and your families all the best for 2021.
